Sprint Prepaid and Walmart: Common Cents Mobile

Sprint Prepaid and Walmart: Common Cents Mobile

Walmart Cell Phones

Looking for prepaid cellphone plans? Your local Walmart may have a new option for you. On May 15, about 700 Walmart stores began offering Sprint’s “Common Cents Mobile” prepaid cell plan. The markets first to get the service were those hardest hit by the slumping economy, including Detroit, MI; Birmingham, AL; and Orlando, FL.

Twenty and thirty dollar prepaid cards will be available and minutes will be billed at 7 cents. An exciting feature of the plan is called the “round down” feature. Typically, wireless carriers round UP minutes used. For example, if your call was 1 minute and 47 seconds, you would be billed for 2 minutes. This new Sprint-Walmart plan will round DOWN your minutes used. In our example, you will be billed for only one minute. The result: you will get more minutes for your money.

Messages will also be billed at 7 cents per text message.

The handsets are basic phones with no frills but the line-up is very affordable. The available devices are:

  • LG 101: $19.77
  • Samsung M340: $39.77
  • Kyocera S2300: $69.77

The two convenient cell plan options are:

  • $20 prepaid wireless card: up to 565 minutes; 30 days of service
  • $30 prepaid wireless card: up to 848 minutes; 60 days of service

The “Common Cents” pay-by-the-minute plan is exclusively available through Walmart.

This is the same Sprint who, for the fourth year in a row is on the top-ten list of WORST companies where it comes to customer service? No thanks!

I dropped Sprint and went to NET10 prepaid and it has saved me a LOT of hassles and a plenty of money the last year. There is no way I would go back to that kind of shoddy service.

There is so much hype behind ‘Common Cents’, but that is only because people don’t know the cold hard facts. Sprint has been on the MSN Money ‘Customer Service Hall of Shame’ for 4 years now, when Net 10 has gotten the JD Power Award for the best no-contract experience. I have been using Net 10 for a long time now, and I am so happy. It is so hassle free, and I am saving so much money with their amazing rates.

I like net10 better than the sprint also. If you’re a Net10 user check out this cool promotion they are doing net10laughoff.com. I just did it and I think i have a shot at winning.
