Is AT&T Preparing for the Verizon Release of the IPhone?
Rumor still has it that the iPhone will soon be sold by Verizon Wireless. Analysts report that there will be two new iPhones released this year. It looks like the first will arrive in July and will be exclusive to AT&T; the other will be released closer to the end of the year and will be available through Verizon.
In anticipation of this rollout, AT&T is reportedly reassuring customers that they have taken drastic measures to prevent dropped calls as poor coverage has recently been a problem for the second largest wireless carrier. The Wall Street Journal reports that in December 2009, AT&T initiated a 100-day plan to aggresively improve cell plan coverage in major urban areas. In the time since, AT&T found ways to better handle traffic, repositioned antennas, and installed faster connections in neighborhood towers. AT&T is sticking by its statements that its network handles more data than any other wireless carrier in the world.
AT&T is also stating that any company who carries the iPhone for the first time will certainly experience the same growing pains that they suffered. With statements like these and At&t’s recent dedication to improved performance it sure looks like AT&T is anticipating major competition in the iPhone market.
